While I am driving on the way to work, this topic pops up in the 'Group Therapy Session' on Light FM. The psychologist Paul Jay from Monash Sunway University who acts as the counselor shares many enlightening knowhow.
Regarding the effects of worrying too much, it's detrimental to one's physical and mental health in many ways. The mind immersed in a perpetual downward spiral of worries, anxieties and stress loses it's focus on solving problems, of which is of utmost importance, while having this devastation reflected on the body via immunosuppression, illness from fevers to cancers emerges. One with a depressed mind coupled with a maimed physique has a fleeting life.
So what's the solution? Some might resort to daily prayer and meditation. Some might seek professional counselors. Some might even take the commendable step of giving positive meanings to seemingly negative happenings. One strategy recommended by Paul deems surprising, he suggests that we all allocate a specific time everyday dedicated to worrying! Bravo! A great strategy of profound implications, literally realizing 'effective worrying', an art that makes worrying beneficial.
First by limiting the time of worrying, we'll avoid many detrimental side effects and have more time to solve problems. Listing down our worries helps us to identify specifically the things that really matters so to help us prioritize and organize our tasks. We'll even avoid unnecessary stress by postponing our worries! This is truly marvelous!
Alas, I hope that everyone will start worrying in a constructive manner.
